What will today bring ?

Every day bring us a new challange in one way or another even if we dont relize it each day i try to be posative, helpfull and not moan as much as the prevoius day but working with the public can put a lot of strain on this theory so try to do to others what you can expect of them and it might just all work out nicely .if not just count to 10...........or in my case a 110 !!!

Sunday 20 September 2009

I Finished work early on Saturday and couldn't wait to get into town .not for my usual shopping trip round primark for two hours and several heavy bags later but to the wool shop the ladies and knit group told me about.
As i walked down to the old bird cage towards the shop i was getting excited how can a grown up get excited about a wool shop i asked myself but i was .
I opened the door to be greeted by a big smiley face and can i help you "I'm looking for the knitting patten books please "i asked her "oh just down there love" she said "help yourself " down the bottom of the shop there was load sand loads of big folders full of pattens ,two hours later and several are you OK dear do you need any help " I found a pattern that i liked I'what to knit a cardigan for my mum as a surprise i found two pattern that were not too old fashiond but still modern enough, as i read through them both i couldn't make up my mind which one to do i was such a long time in the wool shop my husband had come to find me "what do think mum would like best " i asked him .Don't know, that one or that one ,hurry up just pick one, he moaned.
t
Two elderly ladies came over to the pattern as i apologized for taking up all the room with piles of pattern book i got chatting too them I told them of my dilemma of which pattern to choose "how old is your mum ?"she asked "oh shes 66 "iIreplied " well shes just a youngster then !"she wont want that one is a bit old fashioned ", "that ones lovely dear "the other lady commented" it has a lovely finish." My husband stood and laughed at me "cant you go anywhere with out getting in a natter with folk about knitting !he said" ."well its a bit hard not to ,i am in a wool shop "men they think there so funny (not)
I had decided on my choice and so now the task of choosing some wool I thought I had read the pattern and it was in double knit I asked the lady had she got the wool the pattern was using and she said no sorry but any aran yarn would do. Aran !!!! oh here I go again picked the wrong thing "whats aran i asked her when i think of aran it congers up pictures of thick cable sweaters and men in fishing boats .
no aran is in between double knit and chunky she showed me the section where all the choices were i was surprised the wools were all lovely silky and soft all sorts of colours as i ohh and arrd my husband sat back down again "were in for a long wait "he sighed.
Decided on this lovely cream soft Cotton type wool and it was quiet reasonably at only
£3.00 a ball as i asked the lady at the counter about which needles to use , i then got all confused abbot old sizes, metric, my poor head was busting so i bought a handy little thing that you put the needle through and tell you exactly what size the needle is as i have a lot of needles at home but the sizes have rubbed off. As i said thank you to the lady who helped me the two elderly ladies came over and said good look with my project and that they hoped my mother would like it as i turned to leave with martyn i heard her say to her friend what a lovely Young women ,you don't she many youngsters these day knitting do you , that will look nice in that wool .
Youngster ha i wish well i suppose to then, me at 38 is a youngster but I'm not complaining it mad my day ........and as i left i couldn't wait to get home to start it off ................i will keep you poster as how I'm getting on with it.

Thursday 17 September 2009

Well Wednesday arrived and along with it my day off ..........what shall i do today clean up the house, do some washing, catch up with all my soaps that I've got stacking up on sky plus........no I'll just have five minuets on the PC .........ha that's a joke three hours later and I'm still on it time just fl yes bye you get that engrossed.

Finally at 4.30 i thought about getting some ta on for the kids .........i had forgot all about my knit club until mt daughter had said are you out tonight mun .....OMG......i ran straight up the stair I've got to get ready i look a right old mess.

two hours later showered booted and suited i was waiting for mart to drop me off. This week i wasn't nervous about going Cu's i new the corner to find where they would all be sitting

Arrive to be greeted my Linda and a big smile "oh we weren't that bad then you came back".

When secretly i was thinking "phew she recognised me from last week!"

As more ladies arrive different ladies from last week the room began to fill, soon we were all chatting and knitting as last week took my project out my bag and glanced round the group nearly every lady was doing a different piece from the week before.

I commented on had they finished there projects all ready to be told that nearly all the ladies had a least 4 of 5 plus projects on the go ....well i felt stupid because i was still on the same thing and have been doing it for yonks by the time i get it done the summer will be here and i wont get chance to wear it.

One lady had just completed this ......wonderful brightly coloured striped sock in just........ ..3 days my gob dropped to the floor.

it then began to dawn on me that these ladies were very experienced and competent and i began to fill inferior in there company.Recently they had been awarded some yarn for appearing in the article that i first sore there advert to the join the club . Jane the organiser was offering it out to the members to do projects with all the ladies were dissing this wool .god its awful quality one said feel it its Hindus said another ..what can you do with that it would melt if you got to close to a fire ......all negative comment about this wool (that to me i couldn't tell i just thought what nice colours it was)...i then began to think i used to think i knew a lot about knitting and such but i obviously didn't and have such a lot to learn. This puzzled look must have cross on my face as one o the ladies looked at me as if she new exactly what i was thinking and smiled saying don't worry before long you will be ooohing and arrring just like the rest of us .The two hours went really fast and before you knew it was time to pack up, i really enjoyed myself and even felt a part of the group this week. Hopefully next week i will have finished my sweater as i only have a little left to do half of me cant wait to take it in to show them all and feel proud of my finished project and listen to them telling me how nice it is like the lady with the fabulous stripy sock (well they were brilliant) ........but the other half of me wants to leave it at home just in case i cant hide the disappointment on my face if the ladies think its a sham..........I'm sure they wont.........i hope they wont...............until next time Happy knitting

Wednesday 16 September 2009

well hi there pps ........... ive never done this before so im a first timer so please excuse the spellings and poor pc knowlage as i havet got any both my sisters got that.

however what they didnt get but i did was my great pasion for all things crafy.
over the years i have mad so many different things glueing sticking sewing and knitting and i love it my mum taught me to knit when i was about 6 or 7 she made a few small project over the years but wasnt a great lover of sitting there night after night watching the tv knitting .

i soon got the hang of it and started on small project tea cosy scarf and such and thats when the creative juces got flowing.
i would sit up for hours making lots of thing some worked out but others defenatly didnt, but they were all self taught.Over the years as my confidance grew i asked the lady in the wool shop for advice and have managed to learn a bit of knowlage through trial and error, but for years i have wanted to join a knitting group.
As i work full time (as a fabulous creative hairdresses, well youve got to blow your own trumpet ) the groups i could find were only in the day time at local comunity centera and churches so i will have to battle it out on my own.
we were going on holiday in our caravan and i always take my knitting with me as we drive the long way to devon i can sit and do it in he car marty my husband was never a great talker in the car he says that he can never get a word in ! but i dont no what he means ..........lol
while we were away i treated myself to a copy of the Simply knitting monthly magazine i dont buy it very often as half the time i just look at the pictures and wounder why i cant make things like that well as i sat in the car eating my crusty pork pie and listen to the kids fighting and arguing in the back whos sausage roll was the bigest and complaining to marty that its not fair i lost myself in my mag ...........oh my god i jumped up droped my pork pie bashed my head on the dash board of the car.. mart look look i cried its a knitting group and its in coventry were we live ,he looked at me as if ive lost the plot and then complained that id got mess all in his freshly cleaned car.
All the way home i was so excited i couldnt wait to get on the internet to find out more i sent an email to the organiser and she invitd me to join them at there next meeting.
Wednesday evening approched and i was a nervous wreck what was wrong with me im a grown women who has her owm haidressing salon ,talks to stranges allday yet the thourgt of walking in to the Britainer hotel to meet these ladies was churning me up. marty droped me at the door and left to his badminton game i stood there froze to the spot thinking what to do well if i was to go home now i'd have to get the bus so i walked in ,the place was full of older people stoping in the hotel i didnt know where i was going and walked straight in to the restrant bit ,what a fool my face bright red i tured on my heels and ran out.
Once i was out side i rang my sister .i cant see any one i told her i feel so stupid im getting the bus home ....no no she said dont be daft go back in its after 7pm now so there should be folk in there as. i was talking to her on the phone a lady came through the door with a hand knit jacket on so i thort she must be part of the group so i say bye to jac and gingerly walked back through to the bar .
In the courner of the bar were two ladies sitting chatting and knitting i walked up to them and said hello is this tha coventry knit whit group .my legs were shaking and i felt such a prat but they were very nice and invited me to sit down the organiser lady wasnt there yet so the others didnt know of me so for the longest ten minuets of my life i think i just nervously chatted with out coming up for air i dont think theses two ladies new what to make of me cus i was just rambaling about rubish .When the lady arrived we all sat down i went to the bar to get a drink i could feel all these eyes on the back of my head as i stood there they proberly weret even looking but my imaginenation playin tricks on me.
Before long we were all chatting and laughing about the world and his wife the two hour just went like two minuets i was amazed at the knowlage of these ladies and how they were willing to share it all with me in just that short space of time i had alrady leard so much and soon i was asking loads of thing with out feeling stupid bye the end of the evening i was bussing all yhe was home chewing martys ear off withs she said this and she said that i think he was glad to go to bed just to get away from me and my kniting ha .
Well a whole week has come round again and i am going back tonight to see the group and hopefully now i no where to go i can enjoy myself and continue to learn new things and new freinds which more importanly to me that is why i have stared this blog...............

Iwould like to see if there are any other ladies out there like me who love to knitty and be crafty and share friendship with others and i hope to learn how to do more and actulay finish of a compleat project knitting can be fun it not just for little old ladies in rocking chairs sitting by the fire............besides if your to old you might get arthrighters and not be able to hold the needles drop them in the fire and all go up in smoke .........till tonight i'll keep you posted xxx
